Venezuela: Hitting Where It Hurts/Disputa con ExxonMobil surge en momento inoportuno para Venezuela


On the Venezuelan side, the effects are already being felt. Company bonds traded in dollars went into their biggest drop in six months due to the uncertainty, while investors frowned over the dubious financial health of the state company, a speculation that might raise costs for the vital borrowings made by the company. Then again, it sounds stimulating for big oil to keep pushing, but meanwhile they could all -- most of them are -- keep profiting out of Venezuelan oil and in this case, leaving a bit more than expected to the Venezuelan government doesn't hurt. And if big oil loses this fight against Chavez, he will have the upper hand for years to come and that will make a very good impression with his electorate.
