"...Manuel, en los primeros años de nuestro gobierno -y te confieso que yo lo viví aunque por poco tiempo- hubo la ilusión de que podíamos estar bien con Dios y con el diablo. Alguna gente que se me acercó y que hasta cierto punto me rodeó en este, llegó con un discurso de 'no hay que buscar conflictos, hay que buscar consensos'. Me dejé llevar por esa línea en los primeros años. Hasta que me fui dando cuenta que me habían montado un cerco ¿qué produjo todo esto? Golpe el 2002, paro patronal, sabotaje petrolero, contragolpe, discusiones y lecturas. Llegué a la conclusión -asumo la responsabilidad porque no lo discutí con nadie al hacerlo público en el Foro Social Mundial de Porto Alegre- que el único camino para salir de la pobreza es el socialismo".(artículo completo)
