Colombians Vote for New President to Build on Uribe’s Legacy

Colombians vote today in the first round of a presidential election that’s too close to call as the frontrunners seek to build on Alvaro Uribe’s success boosting investment and beating back drug-funded rebels.
Polls show Uribe’s former Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos and Antanas Mockus, the former mayor of Bogota, in a statistical tie among a field of nine candidates seeking to succeed Uribe after two terms that brought record economic growth. If neither candidate wins a majority of votes a runoff will be held June 20.
